Albums of 2009: The Base — 16 Songs In Self Defense
I first heard the catchy tune “Dirty Little Hole” (iTunes) on Austria’s fantastic FM4 radio station, the only radio station I can bear for listening to music. Immediately took a screen shot of the FM4 iPhone App (iTunes) showing the title and bought the album after checking out a few tracks. The style is labeled Indie or Alternative, which doesn’t tell much, except that it’s not mainstream pop. I hear a variety of influences ranging from Punk to Country.
Personally, The Base remind me a little of the great Bananafishbones from Bad Tölz and also Lou Reed/Velvet Underground. Rather surprising to me is the that the guys from the Steiermark in Austria are not very well known and play shows in world famous locations like a Jugendheim in Mürzzuschlag. They surely deserve more!
